Sage Salt HD 890 | Florida Field Test Review
Telluride Angler fished the Salt HD 8-wt before it was even introduced. Read Richard Post’s evaluation from the flats of Mosquito Lagoon, Florida.
ArticlesUtilizing proprietary HD technology, Sage has created a new saltwater fly rod that is both easier to cast and more powerful than any predecessor. The Salt HD essentially comes in the same lengths and line weights as the prior “Salt” series, but feels like a more contiguous family of rods. Across the board, they are easier to cast and more consistent in their actions. We would describe them as fast, accurate and solid, but lacking the imposing stiffness of the previous series, especially in line weights 10-12. Salt HD rods are heavier and tougher than equivalent X rod models. In the Salt HD, Sage offers their traditional combination of high line speed casting with brute strength for controlling ocean fish.
