RIO’s Elite Bonefish line has a long head and back taper to smooth out the loop, and to make long efficient casts, while the mid length front taper produces great turnover and easy presentation of typical bonefish flies. Each line is built on RIO’s low-memory DirectCore that is extremely easy to anneal (stretch) and lies perfectly straight on the water, yet retains the stiffness needed to cast in hot conditions. In addition, this line is built with SlickCast, creating the slickest, most durable coating on the market—producing the least amount of friction ever measured in a fly line.

  1. My favorite all around flats line with a lighter touch. I keep the flies matched according to line weight. Small bonefish flies with the 6 or 7 weight. Bigger bonefish flies, small permit flies, medium redfish flies with the 8 weight. Larger bonefish, permit and redfish flies with the 9 weight. The Elite Bonefish has a very similar taper profile to the Rio Gold and comparable weighting. If you’re new to bonefishing and you’re familiar with the Rio Gold from your trout fishing background, the Rio Elite Bonefish is an easy line to cast comfortably. I appreciate the longer head for a little more control through the air. The one spot in my fishing where I don’t choose this line is floodtide grass redfishing. Those shots tend to be quick and close and shorter headed line with a little more weight helps in this arena.
