   The consummate Alaska and Kamchatka rod. The Centric 907-4 is a heavy streamer rod that crosses over nicely for bonefish and reds, but most anglers will buy this rod for hardcore freshwater fishing, where large flies are used to catch impressive fish. It’s spectacular with an SBT, Big Nasty or Titan Taper, possessing a combination of lightness and casting stability I’ve never before experienced in a 7-weight. Loading the heavy head of an SBT line, it feels like cocking a crossbow, rock solid with the anticipation of an explosive forward cast. While such distance is seldom necessary with a heavy streamer, the Centric 907-4 will cast almost any line into the backing. More importantly, it has the command to pick up a heavy headed line with a large fly, make one false cast and drill it back to the bank, keeping your fly in the zone. I would describe this rod as “alive.” Functionally, it’s unbeatable, but also possesses those rare qualities of feel and response that make a fly rod truly special.

   I am one of those trout fisherman that likes to reach for a 7-weight when I’m streamer fishing. I like the extra weight of the heavier line for pushing heavy and bulky flies and the bigger rod’s ability to take some of the sting out of casting streamers and sinking lines all day. The Centric 907 is a perfect example of the new school of 7-weights that are intended for trout fishing. They feel like a 6 or even a 5 weight from years ago but they have power in reserve that is more akin to an 8-weight. The Centric 907 is a flat out high performance fly rod. Line speed sizzles out of the tip and you can stomp this blank in the casting stroke. I mean you can really lay into it and the rod responds in kind. The Infinity taper is too much fun from a casting standpoint, but the Rio Big Nasty is a more appropriate line for the style of fishing you will use this rod for. Control is consummate, the fun factor is through the roof and the rod is flat out alive and eager in your hands. I almost feel like the rod is worried when you aren’t casting it, like a dog that is looking for you to throw its ball. The Centric 907 wants to work and you’ll have a hard time putting it down once you pick it up.

   If you are looking for a tool to throw the biggest trout streamers in your box, look no further. This is a 9’ 7wt that will punch those articulated streamers wherever you may want them to go. It is light in hand and throws a Rio Big Nasty sinking line with ease. I tend to steer away from 7wt rods when it comes to streamer fishing, however, this Scott Centric has the performance of a 7wt while feeling like a 6wt. It absolutely changed my point of view on 7wt trout rods.

   Scott is officially killing the 9-foot 7wt game. The 907/4 Sector is absolutely outstanding for saltwater and the new 907/4 Centric is the ultimate freshwater 7wt. It is much lighter than the other high end 9-foot 7wt rods on the market and you can toss it all day without fatigue. The rod throws remarkably tight loops and is a monster. It isn’t nearly as stiff as rods like the G Loomis Asquith 790/4 or Sage IGNITER 790/4, but will still throw a heavy articulated streamer with ease. Of all the rods in the Centric lineup, the 907 has to be the most fun to cast. I found myself laughing at how easy it was to cast the whole fly line. My favorite floating line from a pure casting standpoint is the SA Amplitude Infinity. This pairing is dreamy but not the most functional for what most anglers need. Most people are going to pick this rod up as a dedicated streamer rod and therefore should look into the Rio InTouch Big Nasty and SA Titan families of lines.
