Orvis Helios D Fly Rods

The Orvis D series are fast action fly rods with models designed for trout, salmon/steelhead and saltwater applications ranging from light flats to unlimited offshore.  While powerful fly rods in every model, the Helios D are unilaterally castable and fishable, true to line weight, light in hand and exceptionally fishable.  In contrast with the original 2007 Helios which personified the “broomstick” stereotype of fast action rods, the 4th generation, introduced in 2024, offers superb feel and progressive loading to complement outstanding power throughout the lineup.  Specialized overweighted fly lines are not necessary for the Helios 4.  In fact, on many models, we prefer long line heads and gentle tapers (see individual model reviews) to show off the even flex and ability to hold long, symmetrical loops in the air for distance casts.  These extraordinary rods have become extremely popular thanks to being finely tuned, strikingly light in hand and easy to handle on the first swing.
