Modern Bauer reels carry the essential gene of the beloved Mackenzie series designed and produced by Jon Bauer in the 1990s:  the smoothest drags on the planet.  If you love a reel that purrs, nothing beats a Bauer.  Long before the company was acquired by the ownership of RL Winston, Bauer was an industry leader in lightweight large arbor reel design, always with that mysterious and wonderful drag at the heart of every reel.  The impeccable drag remains, but today’s Bauer reels grandstand some of the most sophisticated, original and beautiful machining in the industry.  These reels have seriously sexy lines.  Ideally sized for their line weights, we find that Bauer freshwater reels balance better than most on our favorite fly rods, whether the full drag RX 1 on a 6′ fiberglass rod or an RVR 6/7 on our favorite streamer rods.
