Reviews

  1. This model casts and fishes high in the 4-weight category, a powerful and capable rod that emphasizes performance over lightness. The length and strength of the IMX Pro V2 4100-4 require the mass and head length of an SA Infinity taper or similar long-bellied fly line. It’s more powerful than other 10’ 4-weights, ideal for big water nymphing and stillwater fishing, but not a Euro-style stick. It will be great on the lakes, whether casting for distance or working with a full sinking line. This model has plenty of backbone for aggressive roll casting and line mending, and for lifting multi-nymph rigs from deep water. So, it’s great for high-stick nymphing, but not delicate enough for Euro techniques.

  2. The 4100/4 IMX Pro V2 is not the lightest rod in the lineup but it has plenty of power. It is a fairly smooth casting rod that favors a slower casting stroke. The rod feels great in close and is a roll-casting machine. This rod would feel right at home on stillwater and is also a great big water, heavy metal nymphing rod. It doesn’t have the feel of some other rods in the IMX Pro V2 lineup, but that’s not what it is designed for. I messed around with the SA Amplitude Smooth Infinity on this rod and found it to be a great pairing for nymph fishing.

  3. A long technique driven 4 weight that feels more refined in the hand than most rods at this price point. The IMX Pro V2 4100 requires patience and an understanding of the long loading window. It doesn’t love to be cast off the tip, and really wants that extra bit of timing and input to make the rod come to life. Roll casting, long mends and the obvious reach advantage make the IMX Pro V2 4100 an excellent nymphing rod for the angler looking to add a technique specific rod to their quiver.

  4. This is a very fine fly rod. The steady action and stable feel indicate to me that this rod would fish any style with ease. From soft dry fly presentations to big mends with the rarer 4 weight sinking line, I wouldn’t hesitate with any of it. I was happy to find that it cast nicely off the tip, and the sturdiness of the blank let me know that if I were to pick up a lot of line or heave a bigger mend with multiple nymphs, the rod would happily do so.
