This model is extremely similar to the 11-weight in balance, feel and casting characteristics. These are truly outstanding big game fly rods. They have a surplus of fish fighting power, but still flex through their entire lengths. I cast a lot of rods side by side at ICAST and came away thinking the Asquith 1290-4 is much more castable than 12-weights from most other manufacturers. This is a major plus to anglers like me who sometimes struggle with the sheer stiffness of 11 and 12-weight fly rods. This rod would help me make a critical cast under pressure.

This is a very forgiving 12 weight that loads progressively along the entire length of the rod. This makes this rod feel like a fly rod where some 12 weights feel like a standup rod with fly line. Tremendous strength in the butt section that doesn’t affect the smooth feeling. Trout casters taking a bucket list trip for GTs should buy this rod. It will make you fish more effectively and more intuitively. This rod works with you and for you, not against you. Go pick one up.
