  1. This is the 6-weight I’ve wanted from Scott for more than 20 years, the combination of every desirable design element with casting range that is simply bottomless. In casting all of the original prototypes, this was my favorite rod. Casting back through the finished rods, it is still my favorite and the first Centric to go in my quiver. My first real fishing experience with this rod came during the salmonfly hatch in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, June, 2020. I could retire all other Gunnison rods for this one. With an SA Amplitude Infinity Taper, I could cast the entire line with a size #4 dry fly while standing thigh deep. The rod is so smooth and progressive it seems crafted in the crucible of nature rather than in a factory. It casts short just as well as long. How many 6-weights are terrific at both 20’ and 80’? I have fished several lines on the rod, including the Infinity Taper, Rio Elite Gold, SA Trout Taper, SA Titan Taper and Rio Big Nasty. It handles them all equally. I’ve fished #24 tricos and #4 conehead buggers in the same day without even considering changing rods. This rod could lure a committed 3-weight angler to fish nothing but a 6-weight all season. It’s all-world.

  2. Simply put, this is one of the best fly rods I have ever cast. It is a remarkable rod and a standout among some truly great 6-weights. There is just something special about the Centric 906 when you cast and fish it, and I believe this rod is absolutely perfect. This rod with an SA Infinity line is a perfect pairing, bottom line. The line out of the tip of this rod demonstrates a connectivity with the fly that feels like a frozen rope. Distance is exact and you can feel the inches or line leaving the rod with the smoothest level loops. I have fished small dries with this rod, thrown large streamers from a boat and done some nymphing as well.

There is nothing at which this rod does not excel. For streamers, the Rio Big Nasty lines in a WF6 are an exact match. The lightness of this rod in hand with the stability found lower on the blank make a commanding and carefree streamer rod. Look, cast, splash, strip and then set or recast. You don’t have to think about the mechanics of it, just create the vision in your head and let the rod work. The Centric is a wonderful mending rod with a light enough tip to precisely lift and place line and an easily accessible middle and lower that creates harmony from tip to butt. You will have to give us a call about this rod as our words will fall short. This is a special fly rod and one that will be talked about in the years to come.

  3. This is a smooth and easy casting 6wt that will play well in the hands of any fly caster, beginner to expert. It is a rod that will dump a tremendous amount of line on command without sacrificing an ounce of feel to it. I can envision this stick in my hand throughout a multitude of scenarios. By a multitude of scenarios, I am referring to just about every situation that an angler could be presented with throughout the day. Want to throw decent sized trout streamers from a boat or while wading your favorite zone? Check. Your favorite mayflies are hatching, and you want to present a dry fly to rising trout? Check. You would like to throw nymphs under an indicator to reach the fish in the depths of the river? Check. Paired with the SA Amplitude Infinity taper, this is a rod that will do it all for you, uncompromised.

  4. This is the best 6wt freshwater trout rod Scott has ever come out with. It feels like a 5wt in hand but has all the power you could ever want from a 6wt. We often talk about rods that are good for everything, but never has that been more true than with the new Centric 906. There is nothing that this rod can’t do well. It can bomb heavy nymph rigs or throw small midges to techy fish in shallow water. This is the smoothest casting fast action 6wt rod out there. It’s amazingly light and very responsive. Unlike some of the rods in the Centric lineup, you can really punch this rod when the wind picks up. It casts a lot of fly lines well, but for all around fishing go with the SA Amplitude Infinity and for streamer fishing, go with either the Rio InTouch Big Nasty lines or the SA Titan Taper lines.

  5. I have 2, 4, 5 Wt rods I like a lot from various manufacturers including Sage. I bought a Scott Radian 9′ 6 Wt a few years ago that I came to love once I got a feel for it, it took a while.
Recently bought a Centric 9′ 6Wt and thought they’d sent the 5Wt by mistake! But afte trying a couple of big Nymphs in the wind I accepted it as a 6 Wt 🙂 I fell in love with it before I even took it on the water with a matched SA Infinity Smooth FT it is a treat to cast And I’m hard pressed to use the 4 & 5 weights (including a nice Sage that I also like immensely) when I should be using them!
I’m heading up to the Snowy Mountains streams & rivers in a few weeks in NSW Australia to give it a proper workout. And hope to really put it to the test in New zealand south island later in the year. It’s definitely been my best purchase since the Radian and I’m still reluctant to let the Radian go!
